ABSTRACT

Global statistics on aging There is a change occurring worldwide with an aging demographic. In the past 60 years, the global population of adults 60 years and older has seen a slight increase in growth. During this time, the percent of older adults has risen from 8 percent to 10 percent. Over the next 40 years, the population of adults 60 years and older is projected to increase to approximately 22 percent of the world’s population (Bloom et al., 2015) and 80 percent of this group will reside in lowincome and middle-income countries (Chatterji, Byles, Cutler, Seeman, & Verdes, 2015). This means that in 40 years, adults 60 years and older will grow from approximately 800 million to 2 billion people worldwide, an unparalleled increase. (Bloom et al., 2015).
