ABSTRACT

Here, the criticality of leadership and the attributes of leaders in times of change are

highlighted to show how the workforce has faced the challenge of change over the past ten

years while keeping to the core ‘vision’ of quality provision for children. The chapter recog-

nises the emotional resilience required to take on the role of leader/manager and explores

the way in which culture and different leadership approaches support the workforce. Possible

future changes and challenges are examined in the conclusion, with the reminder that it

should be the child at the centre of education, not politics or policy.
