ABSTRACT
A cultural theory is a very broad term encompassing theoretical writing from the historiography of Michel Foucault and the philosophy of Gilles Deleuze to the applied work of cultural studies and feminist theory, an event is never a simple or solitary entity. The relationship between or cultural theory events is never understood as cause and effect in the sense of nineteenth century positivism. The translation, or what Thomas R. Flynn calls a “barbarism in English”, eventualizing is a process in Foucault’s historiographic method in which the common sensical or given of a particular period or context is scrutinized by reversing the evidence. Maria Poulaki focuses on invisibility and unawareness as part of cinema such as the work by Lars von Trier that she analyzes. The individual events in a sequence of film or code need to be seized upon and scrutinized, Patricia Pisters and Poulaki would argue, rather than be allowed to cede into the background of a computationally enhanced environment.
