ABSTRACT
Our investigation of the non-literal interpretation of NL-expressions is based on a corpus of construction dialogues collected at Bielefeld University using an experimental setting. Agents (instructors, constructors) were asked to assemble a toy airplane. They used “real world expressions” for objects and configurations thereof like airplane, wing, fuselage, propeller etc. We refer to these uses of expressions as “representation metonymies”. In addition, there were metonymies exploiting properties of bits and pieces of the construction kit like sevener for a bar with seven holes.
