ABSTRACT

Activities at Knowledge Media Research Center (KMRC) are organized in three research units, each of them investigating a major topic in the area of knowledge acquisition and knowledge exchange with new media. These are learning with multimedia and hypermedia, learning with telemedia, and design and implementation of media-based learning environments. Within the scope of these research units, interdisciplinary task forces concentrate on specific aspects of the outlined research field in more detail. Every task force comprises several interrelated research projects. “Interactive Information Processing with Dynamic Visualizations” examines the cognitive requirements of learning with dynamic visualizations and is engaged in developing and testing devices for instructional support. This research unit focuses on collaborative scenarios where a group of persons communicates via the web. Many of the research and transfer projects pursued in the KMRC task forces are funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, the German Ministry for Science and Education, and other funding agencies as well as industrial partners.
