ABSTRACT

From the remoteness of the northern forests of Scandinavia through thriving urban centres to the near deserts of southern Andalusia, conditions and means of transport in Europe change dramatically. Moreover, the transport needs and conditions of daily life also change across the continent. From the stress of the daily business commute in western Europe to the eastern European farmer trying to get to market, daily experiences of transport vary enormously. Thus the transport problems that European citizens face are more a reflection of the place in which they live and the lifestyle they lead than of a particularly European character.
