ABSTRACT
It is the conventional view that the key element of a package to deal with the adverse effects of the growth in car-based, geographically-dispersed patterns of activity is much improved bus and rail services in order to provide equivalent levels of convenience, speed and comfort to the car. In this way, car users can be encouraged more easily to transfer back to public transport.
