ABSTRACT

Statistically significant differences were found between the two groups on the following factors: number of caseworkers involved with adopted child; number of foster parent adoptions. Target children in intact adoptions were significantly more likely to have been adopted by their foster parents than those whose adoptions had disrupted/dissolved. Sixteen of the intact adoptions were foster parent adoptions, while only six of the dissolved/disrupted placements were foster parent adoptions. Adoptive mothers in intact adoptions were significantly more likely to have a high commitment to the adoption than adoptive mothers in dissolved/disrupted adoptions. During the case reviews, coders used items on the Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist to code information found in case records on the behavior of children in disrupted/dissolved and intact adoptions. Often, the case records contained rather limited information on behaviors of children in their birthfamilies.
