There was an obvious need to do more, and Menninger supported the effort. Late in the same day, Dr. Bonnie Buchele, who had extensive experience with survivors of sexual trauma and in group therapy. In addition, her then-husband and his brother were both Kansas district court judges less than four blocks away. Soliciting and coordinating the volunteers were straightforward. All the volunteers were Menninger or Veterans Affairs clinicians who were willing to do whatever was needed. All agreed to help with the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and donate three additional clinical hours if necessary. The newspaper and TV stations informed the community of our intent.
