ABSTRACT

In many broad aspects, adolescents everywhere resemble each other in their joys and sorrows. In many areas chemically dependent teen-from their majoritagers from ethnic and cultural minorities are significantly different y peers. They are obviously different in cultural background. This chapter attempts to delineate these differences, both strengths and weaknesses, in an effort to help the alcohol and drug counselor and mental health provider furnish the best possible treatment for these adolescents and their families. When families of minority youngsters do not have savings, it is impossible for them to raise the money for what may be an expensive and extensive treatment program. The post rehabilitative stage is probably the most neglected phase of minority adolescent chemical dependency treatment. The chemically dependent adolescent is very comfortable interacting with a group, as long as an effort to bridge the culture gap is made.
