ABSTRACT

I had just started my second Level II Fieldwork placement at a homeless shelter and mental health clinic at the beginning of September 2001. During this mental health affiliation, I worked with another student to provide occupational therapy services to residents of the shelter and clients of the clinic. Our main goal at this fieldwork was to develop a new life skills program for the clients, which was to consist of daily groups tailored around their needs. As we were just starting to get to know the clients and to understand the workings of this complex downtown shelter and clinic, the September eleventh attacks occurred. That day, I was supposed to arrive and stay late in order to lead nightly activities. I never made it in that day, or for the rest of the week.
