ABSTRACT
The events of 9/11 brought a new awakening to spirituality both within and outside the occupational therapy community. What does 9/11 represent? In the USA, 9/11 clearly marks the events of September 11, 2001 with massive loss of life at three separate sites. Some link the date with the emergency telephone number 911. Outside of the USA the date is not as significant as the term “Twin Towers” referring to Manhattan's World Trade Center with the focus on the symbols and the greater loss of life in New York City than at the other sites in Pennsylvania and Washington, DC. The sites have been called hallowed ground, a reference to a spiritual connection.
