ABSTRACT

Judy Wein, senior vice president for a financial consulting company, was in her office on the 103rd floor of 2 World Trade Center on the morning of September 11th. This is her story of survival and her experience with Occupational Therapy services. At the time of the impact of the first plane into Tower One, she said she felt her building shake. At the time of the impact into the second tower, Judy suffered a shattered ulna, three broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a trauma to her head. Judy was taken to a New York hospital where they performed exploratory surgery for her internal bleeding, surgery on her arm and stitched her head wound. Judy reported having post-traumatic stress disorder following this event. She recalled her interactions with the occupational therapists when she was transferred to the Hospital of Special Surgery for her hand therapy and follow-up surgeries.
