ABSTRACT

It was a perfectly beautiful fall day, with stillness in the air that engenders a feeling of the Garden of Eden, and a wish that would preserve the day forever. Mary V. Donohue's Long Island Railroad train was just about to enter the tunnel under the East River at 8:55 am when the conductor announced that there is a fire in one of the Trade Towers and she has to better check to see if her subway is running. She decided to walk from Pennsylvania Station. After walking southward for about ten minutes, she decided to turn eastward to Broadway, to continue towards New York University. Mary always loved looking at the skyline of New York as she crossed the Throgs Neck Bridge by car. But the psychological landscape of her perspective has changed. Mary has designed a Ground Zero Memorial, and submitted it to the architects and planners of the Lower Manhattan Redevelopment Project.
