ABSTRACT

Current Awareness Services such as Table of Contents (TOC) or Selected Dissemination of Information (SDI) have been a mainstay in science and engineering libraries for many years. With the proliferation of Web-based full-text journals and the availability of e-resource registries and sophisticated integrated library systems, the process of providing current awareness services with access to full-text have been re-emphasized and re-shaped. This paper will describe current awareness services implemented in the Grainger Engineering Library Information Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. These services include: e-mail notices of current journal Table of Contents with links to available full-text; access to a Web-based currently received journal list with links to TOC of issues and full-text; custom e-mail notices of newly received books. University of Illinois College of Engineering faculty have greatly benefited from these TOC services in their research and teaching. Their input has helped librarians to develop more efficient services that best meet their needs. [Article copies available for a fee from The Haworth Document Delivery Service: 1-800-HAWORTH.
