ABSTRACT

This story presents the words of 'eating disorder'. One woman suffering from the eating disorder, she came to therapy each week as to a shrine, so that woman meet Ms. Anne. Each time she questioned her therapy, she wondered if she were blind. The more she learned about the meaning of her hunger, the more political she became. Late in her therapy, it seemed evident to her that eating disorders are a cultural and a political phenomenon. They are epidemic among women because of the self-sacrificing, self-effacing roles they are expected to play, and because her bodies, her sexuality, and her worth are defined in relation to men. One year after leaving therapy, she came out as a lesbian. The year after she left therapy, she learned a technique for commenting on creative writing. In this therapy she was finally the expert, as well as the author, writing her own life.
