ABSTRACT

Single fathers are one of the most overlooked and under-supported groups in America. Federal law and many state laws are such that whoever has primary physical custody gets the tax deductions for the children. A restraining order is a particular type of court order that may result from a hearing. Supervised time-share occurs when a parent is only permitted to see his or her children in the presence of a chaperon. A father who is requesting to alter the custody or time-share arrangement may request that the court order the parents to mediation. Arbitration is similar to mediation, except that, unlike mediation, the person conducting arbitration is empowered to make a decision as to the outcome of the issues. The goal of a psychological evaluation is to allow the evaluator, almost always a PhD psychologist, to gain an accurate and detailed picture of each parent's personality, character traits, and parenting styles and abilities.
