ABSTRACT

Agriculture encompasses the broad industry engaged in the production of plants and animals for food and fiber, the provision of agricultural supplies and services, and the processing, marketing, and distribution of agricultural products. Farming was the basis of agriculture throughout the century. The business of agriculture concerns the interrelationships of farm producers, distributors, manufacturers, and wholesalers as analyzed by government agencies, universities, experiment stations, conservation services, investors, and consumers of agricultural products. The scientific study of plants has resulted in advances for agriculture and horticulture that have improved the food supply as well as the aesthetics of plants for the ornamentals industry and for people who grow plants for pleasure and beauty. Animal science is the part of agriculture that studies livestock husbandry and the processing of two main categories of products from cattle, poultry, sheep, goats, and swine. It also esteems due to the classic articles published in the first part of the century is Journal of Comparative Pathology.
