ABSTRACT

Library Journal, the first American library and information science (LIS) journal, appeared in 1876. In the 1880s the first British library journal, the Library Chronicle, began publication and was the precursor to the Library Association Record. For a more selective list of LIS journals, two sources were consulted: Katz' Magazines for Libraries, Ninth Edition and Bowman's Library and Information Science Journals and Serials: An Analytical Guide. Journal of the American Society for Information Science (JASIS) and in Librarianship, Library Journal. Wilson Library Bulletin is the only journal selected that is no longer in publication. Bulletin-Medical Library Association covers a wide range of topics in scholarly articles and is essential reading for medical librarians. Science & Technology Libraries includes scholarly and practical research articles in theme issues for practicing science and technology librarians.
