ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the inclusive model for making ethical choices and deals with an application of the model to an example of an ethical dilemma. It argues that one's position in the culture, particularly in relation to power, deeply affects how one defines each of the principles and thus is at the very heart of one's ethical decision making. The chapter focuses on the emphasized aspects of ethical decision making that the authors have experienced clinically and that is consistent with feminist principles of analysis but have been missing from the literature. As a feminist, one must consider the emotional-intuitive responses of the therapist; the socio-cultural context of the therapist, client, and consultant, particularly as it relates to issues of power; and the client's participation in the decision-making process.
