ABSTRACT

This chapter relates the struggle of one therapist who is learning to develop her persistence into patience. Rochelle meets the criteria for Generalized Anxiety Disorder, but somehow this diagnosis doesn't quite capture the extent of her difficulties. Rochelle is a 41-year-old white woman with no friends, a history of sporadic employment, and an intense self-hatred. She was medicated with Zoloft and Lorazapam in the past year, and currently takes only Buspar. Sometimes the author believes that she is depressed also, and other times believe she exhibits elements of a personality disorder or Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. Although some therapists might consider editing a client's resume inappropriate in terms of therapeutic boundaries. The author by training a Counseling Psychologist, providing both personal and career counseling to the clients. The author think about trying relaxation or anxiety management techniques while she was in the office but the author didn't feel that was appropriate without a comprehensive intake and definitive diagnosis.
