ABSTRACT

SUMMARY. The author describes her treatment of a difficult client, a woman who was angry at everyone almost continuously, who put down therapy even as she was making progress. The therapist discusses her countertransference feelings with this client, and some thoughts about the nature of “mistakes.” In writing this article, the author discovered that the treatment was not as much of a failure as she had remembered initially.
