ABSTRACT

Not long after Lancelot, in a man-to-man fight, kills Meleagant, the kidnapper of Guinevere, Arthur goes out hunting with a large party in the neighborhood of Camelot. During the hunt, a weeping knight tries to abduct the queen. Three of her attendants, Kay, Sagremor, and Dodinel, are unhorsed by the unknown knight, who later turns out to be Bohort. When Guinevere’s fourth and last companion, Lancelot, prepares for the final duel, an aged lady enters the field and orders him to follow her. Lancelot must comply with her wishes, having earlier promised to do so in exchange for information. Before Lancelot follows the lady, he defends the queen. He unhorses the unknown knight and is seriously injured himself while doing so, but he saves his beloved.
