ABSTRACT

What drives us to action? What makes us want to make plans for the next day, the next year? Desires for material things play their part: a new car or plasma TV screen. Or even wishing for a better husband, or a better analyst. What drives us to action is wanting what is Missing. More precisely, wanting what we are Missing, because there is a powerful sense of identity in this desire. We form a powerful identity with something that is absent. If this absence gets filled with the Missing element, our sense of self will be satisfied, we believe.
