ABSTRACT
I met Andrew Samuels personally just under 20 years ago, when I went to fetch him at his hotel to give his first talk in São Paulo. Because of his prolific intellectual production, I expected to meet an older, more sober man, so I was ever so surprised to be introduced to a humorous young man full of vitality and curiosity.
