ABSTRACT

I am not who you think I am'. Here, this formulation is not the reply of a hypocritically prudish young girl to the propositions of an honest man sensitive to her lures. No, it is the uncanny that proffers it provided that is the latter is endowed with speech. Freud thinks so, noting that it often happens that neurotic men declare that they feel there is something uncanny about the 'female genital organs'. Uncanny phenomena can occur during a session, whose fruitfulness may be compared with undergoing episodes of depersonalization. Among others, it is at these moments, or when they return, and almost throughout the whole of life, that the uncanny finds the opportunity of manifesting itself more or less spectacularly. The episode was free of all anxiety. On the other hand, in this strange, uncanny atmosphere, a certain curiosity, perplexity and uneasiness were undoubtedly being expressed.
