ABSTRACT

A psychiatrist, full member and former president of the Paris Psychoanalytical Society, Jean Cournut, 1929-2003, was for some eight years the co-editor of the Revue Francaise de Psychanalyse. With his great independence of mind, he explored drive-related phenomena in some depth and emphasised the importance of quantitative factors in the way that the mind works. He also studied the relationship between men and women in their love life. It is obviously necessary to examine other disciplines, the biology of the unconscious, the philosophy of difference, sociology, history, anthropology and so on. Adam was almost happy. With food and shelter, and naked, he was perfectly self-sufficient in his earthly paradise. For the pleasures of the flesh, he gave himself satisfaction; for the delights of the mind, he had his own conversation. Male domination is said to be physical, social, political, economic and so on, but it is rarely pointed out that each term is only explained by another and vice versa.
