ABSTRACT

I have worked at the Marie Curie Centre in London as a part-time art therapist for over three years. It is a thirty-two bed unit with a very active out-patients’ department and day centre. There is a very strong medical lead within the unit, which provides excellent palliative care. Over the period of time that I have been at the centre there has been some considerable change toward a more holistic approach to the care that is offered. We have a strong multidisciplinary team and there is a more open approach to psycho-social and emotional issues. I have developed my role so that I can work in a very flexible way and be as responsive to the needs of the patients as is possible within the time constraints.
