ABSTRACT

When a vendor offers to come and train library staff to use its products, it may be difficult to decide whether this is indeed a productive use of staff time. The value of vendor-sponsored training can vary widely according to the type and purpose of the training; the relative cost of staff time; and the specific audience that might benefit most from such training. The presenters of this Tactics Session approach the issue from both sides: Rick is a librarian currently working as Director of Resource Acquisition at the University of Nevada-Reno, while Kittie (also a librarian) is the West Coast Academic Sales Manager for EBSCO Information Services. In combining their different perspectives, they offer practical advice to librarians seeking to get the most out of vendor-sponsored training. doi:10.1300/J123v52n03_07 [Article copies available for a fee from The Haworth Document Delivery Service: 1-800-HAWORTH.
