ABSTRACT

Johansson’s (1973) point light technique has been used to investigate the invariants underlying perception of event properties of biological motion (e.g., Berry, 1991; Bertenthal, Proffitt, & Kramer, 1987; Stoffregen & Flynn, 1994). Performance discrepancies between static and moving point light displays demonstrate that movement of the actor (local transformations of the actor’s limbs) provides information sufficient for the perception of event properties.
