ABSTRACT

At Kent State University, a Research University II institution serving approximately 30,000 students at the flagship Kent Campus and seven regional campuses, the leadership challenge is being addressed in an ongoing, public process of revising mission and academic policies, re-evaluating scholarship and faculty roles, and identifying institutional values. The Kent Educational Network for Tomorrow (KENT) is a reconfiguration of earlier projects that stresses scholarship in education and teacher education, and focuses on educational needs expressed by communities. Ameliorating the growing problem of juvenile crime is at the heart of a number of community-collaborative projects conducted by faculty in Kent State University's Department of Criminal Justice Studies. A number of health-related programs focusing on children and families have evolved as the result of collaboration between Kent State University's School of Speech Pathology and Audiology, the College and Graduate School of Education, and Children's Hospital of Akron through the Family Child Learning Center (FCLC).
