ABSTRACT

Summary. Current and future trends in employment opportunities and the changing nature of the labor force are identified in relation to expected career experiences. The changing nature of a service based economy is explored in relation to expected changes in educational levels, demographic shifts in the age distribution, increasing participation of females in the labor force, and potential conflicts between career and family demands. Potential mismatches between employment opportunities and the requirements of the labor force are examined and organizational adaptations that might minimize potential frustration and dissatisfaction are discussed.
