ABSTRACT

The Columbia University School of Public Health, through the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology, offers a Master of Public Health Program with a major emphasis on the area of Long Term Care Administration. The program’s goal is to train administrators, policy analysts, planners and researchers in institutional and community-based long term care. A key focus of this program is to train gerontological professionals to identify those for whom long term care is appropriate, and to determine the nature of the services and the qualities of the environments that would maximize their well-being. The program is unique when compared to other programs because its primary emphasis is on having professionals trained in health fields address programs for the elderly as well as problems of populations and communities. It offers the quantitative tools necessary to identify problems, find interventions and evaluate the effects of those interventions to students who already have some health professional skills.
