ABSTRACT

Donna Hutchcomb requested psychotherapy specifically focused on the sexual troubles she was experiencing in her marriage. Mrs. Hutchcomb also presented with an apparently seamless life history. She had married at age 33 at the urging of her family, who were upset at having an “old maid” for a daughter. Mrs. Hutchcomb allowed her pondering to lower the wall against what she had so long been unable to talk about, namely, the reason for her presence in consultation room: the unsatisfactory sexual relationship with her husband. Hutchcomb knew how to use the library and, by reading more complex sex manuals, discovered her husband to be a prematurist. He ejaculated as soon as he entered her. Mrs. Hutchcomb saw herself as a model patient. Early on she flushed her medications down the toilet and declared herself ready to investigate her past. Mrs. Hutchcomb experienced herself as totally helpless, a plaything of fate.
