ABSTRACT

A. Bernstein comments that women who have been incestuously abused have not been reported to develop the common fantasies of oedipal victors, such as males who have been their mothers’ lovers. Val Brewster and Simon Avital expected to be misused and mistreated as well. But they did not report having committed incest with their mothers until the treatment process was well established. Val Brewster became enormously polite after he realized how much he had taken in of his father’s behavior. Mr. Brewster was now seen as the exclusive villain. During his symptom-free time, Mr. Avital dreamed copiously, tried to understand what he was dreaming about, but became bogged down in his own system of explaining fantasy material. Mr. Avital glowingly lauded his wife-to-be because she wanted to undertake a reconciliation in time for their wedding.
