ABSTRACT

With incest-victim support groups forming everywhere and the public becoming sensitized to the existence of incest, it is not surprising that a number of patients present themselves with the belief or suspicion that this form of abuse has been their fate. This chapter presents a case study of Annie Laviza and Allan Richmond. Ms. Laviza came for treatment because she could not maintain a relationship with Terry, the only man whom she had ever loved. Ms. Laviza could give up responsibility for her incestuous arousal and preserve the image of her mother as good and caring for her daughter as long as she fantasized father as being an abuser. Mr. Richmond thought that he really did not need an analyst. He was at a loss to explain why his interest in his wife had waned. He thought it had to do with “sex on demand” when making a baby.
