ABSTRACT

“Task” is one of the most fundamental and frequently used terms in the study of human behavior. Psychology is the science of people performing tasks. Every report of experimental work includes a mandatory section of “task” description. An investigation of the nature of task shells, and the process by which they are formulated and maintained, is well within the contemporary focus in cognitive psychology, on the study and modeling of the work and influence of control and executive processes on human behavior. Control processes are the class of processes that initiate, coordinate, synchronize, and regulate the conduct of goal-directed behavior. Typing and data entry using a standard computer keyboard is one of the most prevalent tasks in our technological age. Touch typing, which is the most efficient mode of data entry, is a skill exercised by only a small percentage of the users.
