ABSTRACT

The goal is to explore transportation needs that can be accomplished with renewable and economical solar energy (plus non-solar tidal energy): direct radiation, and radiation consequences such as temperature, wind, rain, streams, waves, currents, turbulence and shears, and growing plants and trees. The transportation subject encompasses natural creatures from a fraction of a kilogram on up, human powered devices that go to 100 or 200 kg or so, and powered devices that involve human control that include cars, trucks, trains, aircraft, and boats and submarines. Only representative samples of the major categories are presented, types that illuminate the mechanisms of acquiring or using solar energy.
