ABSTRACT

The variable-speed generator used at the tidal electric power plant (TEP) for experimental commercial operation has made it possible to improve the average operational efficiency by 3-5 per cent. The consumption of electric power for the plant's own needs, including the needs of the scientific research work, was approximately 19 per cent. The hydraulic generating set at the Kislogubsk TEP has been used for system power production for 32.5 per cent of the 30 years. Zhuk All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute for Design and Exploration are currently considering alternate schemes for its conservation, and a statement of subsequent research on a new, more effective orthogonal hydraulic generating set for the TEP is being defined. The most common optimality criterion for the operating mode of TEP is minimum total expenses with respect to the power system, which consists of expenses for fuel consumption and the prevention of loss caused by the interruption of power supply to consumers.
