ABSTRACT
Technological alliances are a phenomenon in search of a theory. N o received analytical framework can explain the existence and rapid development of either inter-firm cooperation in research and development or technological cooperation between industry and university, public laboratories or other government agencies. This chapter recalls some of the themes that the theoretical literature, from different currents of economics and management, has developed about technological cooperation and alliances.
