ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book advances scholarship in both domains by articulating the mechanisms and boundary conditions of capacity building and inclusion that frame inquiry into positive organizing in the global society. This chapter discusses the multiple identities and resources. It explores how individuals bring multiple identities to an organization, and why this is an opportunity to engage differences. This chapter examines how diverse identities result in the enactment of an individual's strengths and resourcefulness. It then describes the authenticity, the ability of individuals to be genuine, self-aware, and comfortable revealing their true selves. This chapter represents a building block to bridge the disciplinary divide between Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) and Positive Organizational Scholarship (POS) research. The chapter engages scholar-practitioners who have a desire to investigate, teach, and apply principles of POS to D&I dynamics in social systems.
