ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the essential role of diversity in Organizational Innovation. Innovation is a time-bound concept and is inseparably linked to a future state for which no data is present. The Competing Values Framework is a theory that unites management, culture, and competency development and change and innovation strategy to predict value creation. The Collaborate profile encompasses the kinds of people who believe in something greater than the business itself and run their businesses to reflect those values. The Create profile encompasses the kinds of purposes and practices that many people think of first when they hear the word creativity. The Control profile represents incremental innovation-taking something that exists and modifying it to make it better. Effective innovation leadership produces variation and accelerates the failure cycle to incite the constructive conflict that creates hybrid solutions. The competing values contained within these diverse perspectives, cultures, and competencies provide the necessary constructive conflict to produce innovation in all its forms.
