ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by addressing the importance of diversity and inclusion initiatives on team performance. Teams in organizations have become increasingly diverse in terms of surface-level diversity and deep-level diversity, and they will continue to become more diverse in years to come. It illustrates how SOAR promotes an inclusive environment that facilitates positive performance among diverse teams in which strategy is a dynamic and generative process that focuses on strengths, whole system solutions, and stakeholder inclusion. It explores how SOAR has the potential to promote the positive effects of diversity in teams by maximizing collaborative strategies that are inclusive. The chapter describes how a new practice-oriented tool, the SOAR Profile, helps individuals understand their natural capacity for strategic thinking, planning, and leading. It also describes how SOAR, as measured by the SOAR Profile, can promote the positive effects of team diversity through self-awareness of natural capacity.
