ABSTRACT

In this epilogue, the author outlines some key issues pertaining to the economic and political implications of the European Community's approach to industry. The discussion covers the broad changes taking place in the European Community's policies in a changing global context, from the Coal and Steel Community treaty (ECSC) through to the abandonment of intervention under the aegis of the neoliberal model, and finally, to the re-evaluation of industrial policy in the context of the current financial crisis.
