ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses upon what has been learned about memorial processes through the use of electroconvulsive shock. Observations of memory impairments from the clinical literature are briefly reviewed, followed by an examination of the more extensive and well-controlled research of the animal laboratory. It is not our intent to comprehensively review the vast literature concerning electrically induced amnesia, but rather to discuss phenomena and studies that have important theoretical implications.
