ABSTRACT

Thinking about democracy and the ills of democracy is the job of political scientists and the main activity of political journalists, pundits and alternative thinkers. It is more realistic to argue that the principle of US democracy is 'one dollar, one vote' than 'one person, one vote' even if in some rare cases the winner is not the one who spends the most money. The business world favors illegal immigration to have access to the cheap labor of the reserve army of the 'precariat' while religious conservatives usually oppose it. Chomsky also often argues that polls show Americans have different expectations and demands from their elected representatives. Scandinavia is more democratic than the US not only because money and access to the media in elections are regulated and people are more likely to take part in the electoral process, but also because it is less of an oligarchy.
