ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to contribute to the study of events through analysis of Eurochocolate, a ten-day international chocolate exhibition that has been held annually in October in Perugia since 1994. Perugia, a small city in central Italy, hosts three important festivals: Umbria Jazz, Eurochocolate and the Festival of Journalism. All three have a positive presence in the media, and have enhanced the city's national and international reputation. The Eurochocolate stakeholder model presented is based on the role of the event stakeholder, the degree of engagement of the participants and the relationships among stakeholders within and outside the event. Eurochocolate participants can be divided into five categories: exhibitors, sponsors, chocosponsors, partners, agencies and supporting entities. The organizers included the Eurochocolate director, Sedicieventi with its professional staff, event employees and event volunteers. Eurochocolate organizers are very careful to reduce the causes of conflict between citizens and chocolate craftsmen.
