ABSTRACT

This chapter contributes to the existing food and wine event research in various ways, by gathering the perspectives of a local wine and food festival in La Palma Island, Spain, on the following aspects: the event itself, the challenges limiting the full impact of the festival and the future of the event. While wine and food events constitute an increasingly popular research subject in recent years, 'it is at an early stage', and therefore, it has not been adequately addressed in various contexts, including in island wine regions. Earlier studies discuss the importance of stakeholders' roles and involvement in events, also of food and wine festivals, as well as the emerging implications, including for industry and institutions. Despite the acknowledged benefits that 'Insular Fair of La Palma Wines' (FIVIPAL) provides to the local traditions and culture, including La Palma's food and wine culture, stakeholders also recognised various barriers to fully maximising the potential of the event.
