ABSTRACT

Beyond the passion for the national football team, Brazilians love attending, watching and practising sport in general. Sport events such as Formula One races, MMA fights and international volleyball matches usually attract thousands of Brazilians to sport arenas. In addition to ESPN, Brazil counts with six other sport-exclusive channels, which broadcast sport news, shows and events (not counting the pay-per-view channels). The privileged geographic and the year-round summer-like weather inspire many people to practise outdoor sports, such as surfing, triathlon, climbing, beach volleyball and naturally football. All this interest in practising and watching sport creates the need for good sport policies, to guide the promotion of sport in all its dimensions.
