ABSTRACT

This book began by posing some general questions about diversity in higher education: context, identities that emerge as salient, institutional change, the role of special-purpose institutions, and monitoring change. The five case studies that followed provide an opportunity to look at these questions through a comparative analysis of the status of diversity. What, then, can we learn about institutional transformation and diversity in different national contexts? This chapter will develop some of the major themes that have emerged while paying close attention to these quite varied contexts.
